Rungwe District Commissioner calls for areas with water sources at Busokelo to be cared for and protected.

Posted on: January 26th, 2018

Rungwe District Commissioner, Hon. Julius Chalya has ordered all areas containing water sources must be protected by making and planting crops that are consistent with these conditions.

Speaking yesterday at the launch of tree planting exercise at  Busokelo, he said that citizens should be protecting these areas through planting trees and crops that are consistent with the environment in order to preserve the existing vegetation and water.

"There are many areas with drought and were in the water as they are on our sites. Each of us should watch this lest we find our sites turn out to be a catastrophe ". Hon. Chalya Said.

Citizens said it is time that, Government's need to keep focus and empowering citizens so that they can produce tree seedlings which will help to preserve the environment instead of cutting trees. Tree planting exercise was involved in the ward of Lwangwa, Kabula, Mpata, Lwangwa and Itete where Busokelo District Council allocated more than 167,200 seedlings for citizens to go to plant in water sources and areas to plant trees.
